The last time I was in CT, we went to dinner with my family. It was such a great time with everyone, and as we were getting ready to leave, Dalia, my brother Bernie’s 11-year-old daughter, came up to give me a hug. I love hugs, but this was a HUG. She wrapped her little arms around my waist, rested her head on my chest, and held on tight. And it wasn’t a quick hug—Dalia held firm, going well beyond the usual embrace. In those few extra seconds, I felt the pure love and kindness of this tender-hearted little girl, all the goodness and true affection she had to give. I’ve probably gotten hundreds of hugs in the past year, but this one from Dalia stays in my heart, a memory I revisit whenever I want to feel truly seen and loved. Thank you Dalia, I love you.
I pray that you are often on the receiving end of such a HUG and that you are a giver of them as well.

DeleteThis makes me think of my dad in Heaven, as he got older, he became more and more affectionate and started giving long, tight hugs that were the best ever!!! He developed Alzheimer's (fortunately he always knew us still) and when Covid first hit, I went over with my mask on and he opened his arms wide to give me a hug and since it was all still a mystery and we had to be extra careful, I had tell him I couldn't hug him and why. I never knew if he fully understood and still regret not giving him a hug that day. Covid then stole my time from him while he was healthy, as I would just drop off groceries to my parents, say hello from afar and leave. Then then he got sick and could no longer give them once I could see him again. I think of that hug I had to say no to all the time, what I wouldn't give to go back, but I know one day when I get to Heaven too, he'll be waiting with his arms wide open 🫂🕊️✝️💓 Deanna
ReplyDeleteOh honey, thank you for sharing this. This is so sad that time you had to spend with your father was taken from you. It must have been heartbreaking. Hold tight to those hug memories and when you see him again, he will be waiting for his precious daughter with arms open wide. Bless you.
